CRTR Supported Charities

We raise money for our educational programs by holding a casino every 2nd year.  Our last casino was held in 2008, and we have one scheduled for 2010.  We know we will raise more than we can spend in the 24 month period required by Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, so we choose to spend 50% of the proceeds from the casino on donations to non-profit or charitable groups.  The club members nominate groups they would like our club to donate to, and we choose (by membership vote) which groups we will give money to.  For the 2008 casino, we had a tie vote for 3rd place, so we decided to split that amount between the 2 groups (Friends of the Eastern Slopes and Opening Gaits).   Our 1st and 2nd choice received 1/3 of the donating amount (50% of the casino proceeds), while the 2 groups that tied received 1/6th, each.
